Jesus's birth in Bethlehem, the wise men
Jesus Christ son of God was born in a stable in Bethlehem and he was immediately courted by
three wise men
who gave him gold, incense and myrrh.
The wise men had followed a shining star that moved in the sky
and stopped over Betlehem.
He had the mission to live as a human, to live a holy life, to take the punishment for our sins, die and resurrected and thus unite us humans with God.
Only a pure and spotless sacrifice was able to forgive and erase the sins of humanity. Jesus Christ is Holy and pure and has never ever sinned. He was willing to sacrifice himself to save us. He did it because he loves us.
He existed in heaven before he was born here on Earth. He knew that he was going to be killed. He also knew that he would resurrect from death. He is victorious and he gives eternal life in paradise and forgives the sins for all who believe in Him and love Him.
He was born by a virgin. He was born in Betlehem. Prophecies in the Old testament predicted this hundreds of years before it happened. The prophecies also calls him Emmanuel which means "God with us."
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus's birth - Bible scripture from Matthew 2:1-16
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
Background to the celebration of Jesus's birth on 24, December 25, the church calendar, etc.
What was the Star of Bethlehem?
Jesus was a Jew and a refugee
King Herod who heard that the king of the Jews was born, he was afraid that Jesus would become a rival to his throne and tried to kill him. He killed all boys who were two years or younger in Betlehem and in that area.
But Joseph was warned by an angel, and fled with Mary and baby Jesus
King Herod of Judea (now Israel) killed all potential rivals to his throne
